Veeam PowerMax REST 10 support

A new version of the Dell PowerMax Plug-In for Veeam Backup & Replication which supports REST 10 is available for download. The Release Notes can be found here. If you are upgrading the plug-in be sure to keep reading through the post.

The prerequisites to use the 1.1.6 version of the plug-in are:

  • PowerMaxOS 5978.711.711+
  • Unisphere 10.1.0+
  • Veeam Backup & Replication 12

Upgrade

If you are currently running an embedded Unisphere for PowerMax 9.x with PowerMaxOS 5978.711.711+ and wish to upgrade your Veeam plug-in, you’ll need to install a separate Unisphere for PowerMax 10.1.0 and use that. Remember Unisphere is backward compatible so there is no issue using a newer Unisphere with an older PowerMaxOS.

If you cannot upgrade your Unisphere, or you are running version 10 or 11 of Veeam, you’ll have to stick with the 1.0.90 version of the plug-in which only supports REST 9.

There is an important change in this release which will impact upgrades for some customers. As part of the configuration instructions, users are required to create a masking view for any proxies or ESXi hosts (from registered vCenters) with a storage group prefixed with "VEEAM_". The old plug-in was case insensitive, just like Unisphere. The new plug-in, however, IS case sensitive. Therefore if you have the old plug-in and have any storage groups with the prefix "VEEAM_" that is not fully capitalized, you should update them BEFORE you upgrade. This is a two-step process because while you can rename a storage group on-the-fly, Unisphere will not let you change from say "veeam_" to "VEEAM_" as it considers them the same name. Therefore rename the prefix to something else temporarily and then to "VEEAM_".

While the new version of the plug-in has some performance improvements, the main purpose is to support REST 10. Therefore, the functionality is the same. If you are unfamiliar with the plug-in, you can check my post.
